Flags in Michigan back to full-staff Sunday
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today ordered U.S. flags on all state buildings and within the state Capitol Complex that were lowered in honor of fallen Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield to be returned to full-staff on Sunday, Sept. 15, a day after his funeral service.
Snyder previously ordered the flags lowered on Tuesday through the day of Butterfield’s funeral service, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at Manistee High School. The governor and first lady will attend.
“The outpouring of support from Michiganders across the state this week has been overwhelming, and it reinforces how much we all appreciate and respect our law enforcement community,” Snyder said. “Trooper Butterfield, his family, friends and colleagues are all still very much in our thoughts as we continue to recognize his service and mourn his loss.”
Butterfield, who was stationed out of the Hart Post, died as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty on Sept. 9. He joined the state police in 1999 after graduating from the 118th Trooper Recruit School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2006-10.
