Flags lowered to half staff to honor fallen MSP trooper

Governor Rick Snyder has ordered all U.S. flags on state buildings and within the Capitol Complex to be lowered to half staff.  This is to honor Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield.

Butterfield died due to injuries he suffered in the line of duty Monday.  He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Butterfield joined the State Police in 1999.  Flags will remain at half staff until Butterfield’s funeral.

American flags will also be at half staff Wednesday–September 11–in honor of Patriot Day.

In a press release, Governor Snyder issued this statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we ask flags to be lowered in honor of a brave man who gave his life in service to others.  We continue to keep Trooper Butterfield’s family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers.”
