VA Medical Center reaches out to National Guard unit

The Oscar Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain is reaching out to local soldiers this weekend.

The center wants to improve health care delivery to a Michigan Army National Guard unit.

The 1432nd Engineering Company returned to Kingsford from Afghanistan earlier this year.

The VA Medical Center is providing medical appointments to the soldiers from the 1432nd on their drill weekend.

The appointments will establish care for them within the VA system without having to take time away from work or school.

Medical center staff members are volunteering their time from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to make it happen.

Some of the soldiers will have physicals on Saturday, and the entire unit will visit the center on Sunday for specialty care appointments and health presentations.
