H.S. football preview: Kingsford
The Kingsford Flivvers football team has always been a force to be reckoned with. They’ve been a model of consistency the last 25 years, making the playoffs 21 of the last 25 seasons.
Kingsford will look to continue their regular season and postseason success this year. The Flivvers are retooling their offense on the fly.
Joe Hofer takes over for Caleb Harrington at quarterback. A number of different tailbacks are in the mix trying to replace last year’s class ABC offensive player of the year, Reed Larson.
If the Flivvers get solid contributions from their younger players, Kingsford could make another playoff run this fall.
“We have a lot of kids who haven’t played a lot of varsity football, so we have a little growing to do,” said head coach Chris Hofer. “I think everybody (in the Great Northern Conference) is pretty good, I’m sure it will be competitive as always. We’ll take it one game at a time and go from there.”
“It’s going to be really tough. There’s a lot of good teams in the GNC. It could be up for anyone this year,” said Flivvers linebacker Jake Allen. “The goal for us always is to get downstate and do really well in the playoffs, we should have a good season.”
Kingsford opens up the season Friday, Aug. 30 at Minocqua-Lakeland, Wisc.
