Youth acting camp in Negaunee

Lake Superior Youth Theatre is wrapping up its summer camp series for the year with an acting camp being held in Negaunee this week.

The five-day course is designed to give youth an introduction to theater and acting.

Participants of the camp will also be working on one last final production before the new school year begins.

“Every day we start here about 9:00 and finish at 2,” says camp counselor Hanna Numinen. “We go over acting techniques, acting warm-ups and things to do when you’re at an audition to prepare them for their roles.”

Lake Superior Theatre plans on continuing their summer camps to accommodate those who are not able to be a part of the theatre during the school year.

“Part of doing these summer camps was to fill the need of having to turn away so many youth last winter because we had an abundance of youth auditioning for “The Little Mermaid”, says Lake Superior Youth Theatre artistic director Nikke Nason. “And so we are kind of expanding our offerings to be able to accommodate how much interest there is.”

The Negaunee acting camp will hold its final performance at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday. The production begins at noon and will be open to public.
