Bluesday Tuesday starts Blues Fest

It was a perfect summer night to sit outside and listen to blues music in Marquette.

The Peter White Public Library hosted Bluesday Tuesday, to kick off the start of Blues Fest Week.

The Flat Broke Blues Band sang to a crowd on the library’s front steps.  Performing at the library is a way for the band to sing original and classic blues songs to people at a historical Marquette landmark.

“We’re a part of Marquette’s history, and here we are we’re playing for the community, it’s a free thing,” Lorrie Hayes, singer in the Flat Broke Blues Band said.  “We see a lot of people here at the library that we don’t see in other venues, and we just enjoy bringing our music to those people.  And I think they enjoy it too.”

Bluesday Tuesday is one of the many events held throughout Marquette to celebrate Blues Fest.

“Bluesday Tuesday during the week of Blues Fest is great because it does put the focus on blues and we’re getting it going this week,” Hayes said.  “We have a great festival that’s happening this Labor Day weekend and this is one of the great things that goes on during Blues Week here in Marquette.”
