The countdown continues to “Stuff the Bus”

More families this year are telling local charities about their lack of resources for back to school shopping.  That means making sure food is on the table is a priority over new school supplies.  A unique 8 hour event Monday, August 26, will help those families with getting kids ready to get back into the classroom. It’s called “Stuff the Bus.”  It’s a Marquette County effort to collect basic school supplies for needy families.

Children who are part of the local elementary and middle school’s Free and Reduced Lunch Programs, and agencies throughout Marquette County serving low-income families, will receive the supplies to better prepare the children for academic success.  In addition, children have greater self-esteem when they have the school supplies they need, and the same school supplies as their peers.

Stuff the Bus school supplies can be dropped off at:  YMCA of Marquette County, 1420 Pine Street, Marquette or the Holiday Inn of Marquette, U.S. Hwy 41 West, Marquette

Additionally, a full size school bus will be part of the Stuff the Bus collection event.  It will be parked at the Holiday Inn of Marquette on Monday, August 26 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Stop by to drop off school supplies or make a monetary donation.  Other volunteer and service organizations are encouraged to participate in “Stuff the Bus” 2013.  For more on how to help, contact Dee Dee Larson at (906) 315-4218 or stayreal@mqtmi.holidayinn.com or Lisa Coombs Gerou at (906) 227-9622 or lcgerou@ymcamqt.org.
