Mackinac Bridge stories sought

August 22, 2013 — What’s your story? For the second year in a row, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) are asking the public to share their Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk experiences on social media with photos and videos. One person sharing their memories will be chosen at random to receive a once-in-a-lifetime tour to the top of the Mackinac Bridge.

Today through Monday, Sept. 9, you can post your memories of walking the bridge, either this year or in a previous year, on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #MightyMacWalk13. Memories can include photos or videos. Due to recent Facebook rules changes, Facebook postings will not be considered entries. To enter the contest, you must use Twitter and/or Instagram.

A free gift pack of Pure Michigan merchandise donated by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., including hats and t-shirts, will be awarded to the person who travels the furthest to walk the bridge this year and posts their memory on Instagram or Twitter. A lucky person whose entry is chosen at random by computer will receive a tour for two to the top of the bridge, courtesy of the MBA. MDOT employees and their families are not eligible for either prize but are encouraged to participate.

Last year, Negaunee resident Michael Gronseth had his photo chosen at random to win a free tour of the Mackinac Bridge, while Jenna Casado Rabberman from Newtown, PA, (near Philadelphia) won a Pure Michigan prize pack for being the person to travel the furthest to walk the bridge and share her memory with MDOT. During last year’s walk, more than 90 people, including Gov. Rick Snyder and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, shared their experiences.

The entire “story” of last year’s bridge walk promotion has been collected together on MDOT’s Storify page and can be found here:www.storify.com/michigandot/2012-labor-day-mackinac-bridge-walk.
