One of the biggest Summer events in the Copper Country began today.  ABC 10’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen has a look at the opening of the Houghton County Fair.

Now in its 62nd year, the Houghton County Fair opens today and is bringing back many of the old favorites along with some new attractions.

Among them is the Great American Duck Races, where participants get to race a real mallard duck.  There’s also a hypnotist and the Cowboy Challenge. Returning are the Monster Trucks and the Demolition Derby as well as the Midway carnival rides.

The crowning of the new Houghton County Fair Queen is also one of the highlights of the Fair. One change is that all admission tickets will be sold at a Central Ticket Booth just outside the fair.  Tickets will not be sold at either of the gates. The Fair runs through Sunday.
