Brewfest preps underway for Saturday

Dozens of breweries will be coming together this Saturday in Houghton for the fourth annual Keweenaw Brewfest.

Forty breweries…150 different kinds of beers…live music…great food…and thousands of dollars raised for charity…that is how to describe the Keweenaw Brewfest coming to the East Houghton Waterfront Park this Saturday.

Keweenaw Brewfest Director Mike Rose says, “The breweries that are involved are all breweries that sell through distributors.  We have breweries from all over the country—Budweiser, Miller’s, Coors; a lot of smaller breweries—Petoskey Brewing is coming this year, Cheboygan Brewery, our own local Upper Peninsula brewery—the Keweenaw Brewing Company, as well as many other big names and littler names.”

More than $50,000 has been raised for the Keweenaw Community Foundation over the first three years…and the community is coming together once again to make the Brewfest a success.

Rose noted, “This year we’re going to have almost 100 volunteers.  What’s exciting for me is the large number of volunteers that want to come back.  They’re calling me already in March and April asking ‘When is Brewfest going to be’; they want to be sure they’re here.  Many people are starting to invite their friends and relatives from outside the area.  But, while I put it together, without those people, this event could not happen.”

Over 800 tickets have already been sold for this year’s Brewfest.  A limited number of tickets are available at the Keweenaw Brewing Company in downtown Houghton or by contacting the Keweenaw Community Foundation.
