Elderly couple killed in fatal crash

A two vehicle crash on H-58 in Burt Township has claimed the lives of an elderly couple.

Thirty-five-year-old Scott Lakosky of Manistique was heading southbound on H-58 in a DNR dump truck around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, when he was hit head on by a northbound vehicle that had crossed the center line. Eighty-three-year-old Robert Pine of Grand Marais was driving the northbound vehicle alongside his wife, seventy-nine-year-old Lucy Pine. Both Robert and Lucy Pine died from injuries sustained in the crash near Adams Trail in Alger County. The crash remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the Munising Detachment were assisted on the scene by Pictured Rocks Park Rangers, MSP accident investigators and reconstructionists, the Munising Township Fire Department, and the Alger County Ambulance and Extrication Unit.
