Voters renew millages in Marquette Co.

Voters in Marquette County weighed in on three other issues in the August 6 election, including two millage renewals and a narrowing of the field for two Marquette City Commission seats that are soon–to–be vacant.

The Marquette City Commission candidate pool was trimmed down from five to four.  Residents were able to vote for two candidates in the race.  So now, Dave Campana, Mike Plourde, Sarah Reynolds, and Tony Tollefson will square off to fill two open seats on the commission in November for a three–year term.

In Michigamme Township, residents approved a 2.5 mills renewal for the operation of fire and emergency services in the township.  The renewal will start in 2014 and stay in effect for the next fifteen years generating close to $130,000 for the township.

Wells Township also approved a millage renewal, giving the nod for 1.49 mills to fund general operations in the township for the next five years.  The millage will bring in just shy of $40,000 for the area.
