Drunk man flees police in high-speed chase

A 22-year-old Escanaba man is now behind bars in the Marquette County Jail after a 25 minute high-speed chase early Wednesday morning.

Michigan State Police Troopers attempted to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation on Dukes Road in Skandia Township around 4:00 a.m. when the suspect sped off on his Yamaha SZ-1 motorcycle. The perpetrator was able to elude police for nearly half an hour before losing control of his bike while attempting to turn around on the gravel shoulder of US 2 near County Road 511 in Masonville Township. He was not injured in the fall and is now in police custody awaiting arraignment.

The Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police Department was assisted by troopers from the Gladstone Post and officers from the Delta County Sheriff’s Department.
