Youth golf tournament in Harvey

The six week season for the Marquette County Junior Golf Association came to an end on Wednesday, but not before one last tournament.

The MCJGA held its final tournament of year this morning at Gentz’s Homestead Course in Harvey. Last week, four golfers qualified for the two championship flights.

Carter Mason defeated Jordan Jurmu in a nine-hole match play contest. Camron Mason defeated Jacob Paquet in the other match play contest.

The rest of the golfers in the MCJGA competed in a skills contest, which consisted of a longest drive competition and a putting competition.

Connor Mason won the boys skills contest, while Lea Whelan took home top honors among the girls.

“Its good to grow the game of golf. That’s what we are trying to do here,” said Steve Whelan, the vice president of the MCJGA. “Its one sport that you can play your whole life,” Whelan added.

Over 180 junior golfers were a part of the MCJGA this year.
