Hostage stand-off case moves forward

Two Escanaba Township men who were arrested after a hostage stand-off earlier this month were in Delta County District Court Thursday for their preliminary exam.

Daryl Sarasin, 64, pleaded guilty to Disorderly Person–Jostling.  That charge is a misdemeanor.  He was sentenced to $325 in fines, and no jail time.

His brother, 62-year-old John Sarasin was bound over to Circuit Court.  He is charged with Unlawful Imprisonment and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

Police accuse John Sarasin of holding his 64–year–old wife hostage for several hours near Flat Rock on July 9.  He remained in his house for another seven hours before surrendering to police.

Sarasin’s next court date has not been set yet.
