B-Ball team camp at Westwood

The high school basketball season is still several months away, but that didn’t stop six U.P. teams from getting together today.

Varsity boys teams from Carney-Nadeau, Gwinn, Ishpeming, L’Anse, Negaunee, and Westwood took part in the third annual team camp at Westwood High School.

For the players and the coaches, the camp was designed to measure the progress that each team has made during the off-season.

“I get to see their styles and I can think about what schemes we can run offensively,” said Ryan Reichel, the head coach of the varsity boys basketball team at Westwood.

“I’m really looking forward to this season. We’ve put in a lot of hard work and I’m excited,” said L’Anse senior Ryan LaBerge. “We’ve played together since third grade. It’s nice to get the gang back together here.”

“We’ve all been getting in the gym working on our own games to get better,” said Eric Lori, a senior at Negaunee.

“These kids have been around for a while now and they’re getting used to each other. A lot of them are seniors this year, so I think we will be alright,” said Jacob Polfus, the head coach at Carney-Nadeau.

The boys basketball season begins on December 9.
