Richmond Township EMT laid to rest

The strength of community was on full display today as emergency personnel from central Upper Michigan paid respects to a fallen colleague.

Sharron Martis was an emergency department technician at Marquette General Hospital, but she was also a volunteer in her hometown of Palmer.

Sharron recently suffered a brain hemorrhage while performing that volunteer service.

“Sharron was a basic EMT with Richmond Township EMS,” Sands Township EMS coordinator Lyn Nelson said. “During a call, she unfortunately collapsed, and thereafter she did die from her condition.”

Richmond Township firefighters and fellow EMTs remembered Sharron as one of their own.

They held an ambulance processional for her from her church, Bible Baptist Church in Ishpeming Township, to the Negaunee Cemetery.

“There was an outcoming from all of the different EMS and fire agencies to do something in remembrance of Sharron,” Nelson said. “They are sending personnel and vehicles.”

Many EMS agencies from Marquette County took part in the ceremony.

Bay Ambulance of Baraga and Alger County EMS of Munising also participated.
