Kivela asks Lowe’s to help with U.S. 41 safety

State Representative John Kivela (D-Marquette) is asking that Lowe’s Home Improvement pay to have safety enhancements made to US-41 in Marquette Township.

According to a press release from Kivela’s office, the request is “due to an influx of accidents on the corridor leading into the store. 175 accidents have happened in the last five years along this corridor. Kivela has asked that lanes be moved in order to provide a better line of sight for drivers.”

“The time to make improvements is now,” said Kivela. “Lowe’s owns the portion of the road that is boasting a higher than average accident rate, and they should be the ones footing the bill, not the taxpayers.”

The press release says the decision to request Lowe’s pay for the enhancements comes after the representative spoke with the Michigan Department of Transportation, Marquette Township and Lowe’s Management. According to Kivela’s office, Lowe’s corporate office has yet to respond to the request.
