Plane makes emergency landing

A single engine airplane made an emergency landing on U.S. 2 in Gogebic County Thursday morning.

The Gogebic County  Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened just before 5 a.m. CST on U.S. 2 near Blackjack Road in Bessemer Township.

The pilot, Aaron Routsala of Ironwood, left the Gogebic Iron County Airport flying to Iron River.  Police say the plane began to experience engine difficulties in flight, and when Routsala tried to return to the airport, he was forced to make an emergency landing on U.S. 2.

The plane was towed back to the Gogebic Iron County Airport.  The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, and the FAA has been notified.

No injuries were reported.
