Wine tasting kicks off Pioneer Days

The Negaunee VFW Post kicked off Pioneer Days with a wine tasting event Tuesday night.

For $12.50, patrons were able to get three glasses of wine, a wine glass, and snack on appetizers.

The VFW has been hosting wine tasting twice a year for the past three years.  Every wine tasting attracts more and more people to the VFW.

“Well I think we’ve gone from around 30 people, to well over 100 people tonight,” Jeannie Kangas said, who is a member of the VFW and organized the wine tasting.  “My husband served 23 years in the military, and when I get together with other military people it’s a wonderful thing.”

All of the money raised from the wine tasting goes to the VFW and other veteran’s charities in Marquette County.

“This all goes towards our veteran’s organization,” Kangas said.  “It helps keep the post going, and goes to Jacobetti (Home for Veterans), all different VFW charities.”

Kangas said the wine tasting usually raises around $800.
