Manistique break-in arrests
An alert passer-by helped police arrest four young people for breaking into the Manistique Ace Hardware store.
Manistique Public Safety says an anonymous person called 911 shortly before 4:30 Monday morning. The caller said that while driving by the store, he or she saw a ladder leaned upright against the side of the building.
When officers went to the store, they found two boys hiding nearby. Police found that the store’s greenhouse had been broken into; the store’s roof had also been damaged.
Officers arrested the two boys who had been hiding. Further investigation led to the arrests of another boy and an 18-year-old man from Manistique.
The young man is accused of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property worth more than $1,000 and being a minor in possession of alcohol. He’s in the Schoolcraft County Jail until the Prosecutor’s Office files formal charges.
The three boys range in age from 14 to 16. They’re accused of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property, being minors in possession of alcohol, being minors in possession of tobacco and curfew violations. Two of the boys were transferred to juvenile detention facilities, and the third was released to his parents.
