A man and a woman are now safe after being rescued by the Marquette Fire Department early this morning.

The two-story structure fire started around 3:40 a.m. at 411 West Baraga, trapping five people inside. Three first floor occupants made it out on their own, while firefighters helped evacuate a man and a woman off the second story roof. Everyone in the building was warned of the fire with the help of operating smoke alarms and no injuries were reported.

The fire was put out at approximately 4:15 a.m., but the second story and interior attic space were both heavily damaged. An investigation into how the fire started and overhaul are continuing at this time.

The Marquette Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Marquette City and Campus Police, the Marquette Township Fire Department Mobile Air Trailer, Medi-Ride Ambulance, BLP and Semco Gas personnel.
