Annual 4th of July parade in Ishpeming

The streets of Downtown Ishpeming were lined with people of all ages as the city held its annual 4th of July Parade to celebrate our nation’s birthday. Crowds were greeted with sirens from police, fire and EMS vehicles. There was also a number of musical groups, and free candy and treats for the kids. The theme of the parade was “Honoring and Welcoming Home our Vietnam and Korean War Veterans.”

“Makes us proud you know, when people stand up and take their hats off and some even salute you know when the American flag goes by.  And we’re very proud of that,” said Vietnam Veterans of America Honor and Color Guard Commander Larry Collister.

From floats and horses to a visit from Uncle Sam, there was a little something for everyone.

“It means meeting family and friends all over the small town community. Just seeing people you know every year that you don’t usually see because they come home for the 4th,” said Ishpeming resident Darleen Eliason.

The parade was just one of the many events that the city of Ishpeming puts on throughout the day. A community picnic is being held throughout the evening, followed by fireworks at Al Quaal starting at dusk.
