Henry B. Smith shipwreck confirmed

There’s confirmation tonight that a ship that sank in Lake Superior 30 miles north of Marquette almost 100 years ago is the Henry B. Smith.

The Duluth News Tribune is reporting that video taken last week confirms the shipwreck is the Henry B. Smith.

A group of shipwreck hunters located the wreck in May, but they weren’t able to get video footage showing the ship’s name until last week.

The video was taken in Lake Superior in water that was more than 500 feet deep.

The 525-foot Henry B. Smith sank in November 1913 in the massive Great Lakes Storm of 1913.

The group will continue to review the video and send it to shipwreck experts to learn more about the Henry B. Smith and how it sank.
