Relay For Life cancer study

As participants get ready to walk around the track at this year’s Copper Country Relay for Life…organizers are asking for volunteers for an important cancer study.

300,000 people are needed for the national Cancer Prevention Study.

The American Cancer Society has selected the Copper Country to take part in the study because of the success of the relay.

Cancer Prevention Study–3 Chairperson Laurie Stark says, “Our area was chosen because we typically have a fairly big relay.  They look at our enrollment size as well as how many dollar we’ve raised throughout the years.”

In order to take part in the study, you need to be between the ages of 30 and 65, have never been diagnosed with cancer and be willing to commit to a long-term study.

“It’s an exciting way to see where our research dollars go and then we also get a lot of findings from these studies,” added Stark.

Enrollment can be done at Relay for Life at Houghton High School Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
