Nordic Walkers trying to set world record

Organizers of FinnFest USA 2013 hope this year’s festival will be one for the record books.

Specifically, a Guinness Book of World Record for the number of people Nordic Walking simultaneously.

“Number one, we are going to shatter a world record!  That’s the most important thing and that will just be great to put this 2013 international Finn festival on the map—great for Houghton, great for Hancock and great for the U.P,” Nordic Walking Instructor Pete Edwards said.

To qualify, roughly 1,200 people need to come out Saturday morning and start Nordic Walking at the same time.  All Nordic Walkers need to walk correctly and with the required rubber tips on the poles.

Registration will begin at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock Saturday and the walk will start at 10:00 a.m.

If the Copper Country is going to take this world record from Sweden, a big final push is needed.

“We are way past the halfway point to super shatter that 1,200 point,” Edwards said.  “Round up more family members and more friends and let’s have a lot of fun!”
