Fire training scheduled at Sawyer

The Marquette County Fire Fighters Association will be conducting a county wide fire training exercise on Saturday, June 22, at Sawyer in Gwinn, from 8 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m.

The Marquette County Land Bank Authority owns 15 vacant residential buildings that are scheduled to be demolished during the summer of 2013 and has made them available for fire training prior to demolition.

The Marquette County Fire Fighters Association has been working with the Land Bank Authority to facilitate the training.  Training will be held in two of the vacant buildings.

Fire training will be part lecture and part hands-on consisting of water shuttle, search and rescue, ventilation and forcible entry training.    10 Departments are expected to participate in the training.

The Marquette County Fire Fighters Association representatives say they would like to thank the Marquette County Land Bank Authority for allowing the fire departments within the County of Marquette to conduct training within the buildings.  Fire departments rarely get opportunities to train in buildings such as those at Sawyer, therefore training of this nature is extremely valuable in keeping fire fighters prepared for when emergencies occur.
