Mqt. Co. to no longer accept unfunded mandates

The Marquette County Board of Commissioners decided it will no longer accept unfunded mandates at their meeting Tuesday night.

The commission does not want to accept the unfunded mandates because the county cannot afford to fund them.

“We should send it (the resolution) to all 83 counties (in the state), along with the departments within this county, like the treasurer and say this is what the board’s wish is,” Debbie Pellow, Vice-Chair of the Marquette County Board of Commissioners said.  “We’re not taking this any longer, because we can’t financially do it anymore.  We need to get the message out that we’re done.”

The board also discussed water levels on Martin Lake, which has recently seen a decrease in water levels.

There was also a presentation from Marquette General Hospital.  MGH and nine other hospitals in the U.P. will go through a two year training program to improve quality and customer service.
