Over 1,000 people without power due to storms
Thunderstorms came through the U.P. Thursday night, bringing thunder, lighting, and strong winds.
Michigan State Police at the Negaunee Post say there are power lines down in Republic Township, mainly near the Fence River Road.
UPPCO is reporting around 1,500 customers are without power. One thousand of those customers are in the Republic area.
There are reports of closed roads in that area due to downed power lines. Drivers should use caution, watching out for barricades or downed lines.
UPPCO says there is no timetable for when power will be restored.
