Learn to Row classes scheduled

Marquette – The Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club will host an informational meeting for its Learn-to-Row program on Wednesday, May 29th at the Peter White Public Library.  Adults and high school youth interested in learning the sport or refreshing their skills are welcome to attend. The meeting for high school youth will run 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and for adults from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Classes begin with safety training and swim testing on Monday June 3rd from 6:00 .p.m to 8:00 p.m. at Marquette Senior High School.  Adults will have a choice of two available on-the-water courses to be held during June.  Youth will have a separate Learn-to-Row program.  The UPCRC has nine US Rowing-trained and certified coaches that provide a progressive skill development program.

“Rowing and sculling are great sports for all over body conditioning at any age,” states Gail Brayden, MD, member and past president of the club.  We have specific lessons and outings for high school age youth.  Our adult members range in age 18 through the mid-70’s.”  Members participate in both recreational and competitive opportunities.
