Portage Health celebrates Hospital Week
The staff at Portage Health hospital has been the one getting cared for this past week. It’s all part of Hospital Week and they are using it as a means to give back as well. ABC Ten’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen explains.
Portage Health in Hancock has a lot celebrate as they close out Hospital Week…and they are doing it by raising money for great cause.
The staff was treated to an healthy picnic, free chair massages, and free fitness demos.
Portage Health Wellness Coordinator Joni Erkkila says, “Hospital Week celebrates all of our employees, the hard work that we put in all year long, and just giving back to our staff and enjoying the week together.”
The staff in turn is giving back to the community by hosting a treadmill walkathon. Employees sign up for 15 minutes and donate ten dollars while others contribute to encourage them to keep the treadmill going for ten straight hours.
Erkkila says, “Some staff member have raised up to a hundred dollars for their 15 minute time slot so we’re just signing up staff, getting them in and raising a lot of money.”
Money raised will be donated to 31 Backpacks which helps feed hungry children in the Keweenaw.
