37th annual Big Bay Relay Saturday
Participants in one of the longest running road races in the Marquette area will hit the pavement this weekend.
The 37th annual Big Bay Relay gets underway at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. The relay starts at the Kaufmann Sports Complex, and runs all the way to Big Bay along County Road 550. That means motorists along that route will have to share the road.
“We have safety precautions put in place for all of our drivers,” Big Bay Relay Director Nicole Dewald said.”Basically each team–we have about 36 teams right now–has a crew car, so there will be 36 cars along County Road 550 with their flashers on.”
“All racers are going to be wearing a high visibility reflective belt, that is their relay baton.”
The Noquemanon Trail Network is hosting the race. The event ends with lunch at Perkins Park in Big Bay.
