Suspected thief arrested after locking herself in vehicle

A 42-year-old Curtis woman was arrested for Home Invasion and Larceny in Building Monday morning in Mackinac County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police-St. Ignace Post responded to a breaking and entering at Chamberlin’s Inn in Portage Township at 7:35 a.m. Monday

When troopers arrived on scene, they found the suspect had locked herself in a vehicle.

An investigation determined that the suspect entered Chamberlin’s Inn and stole numerous items, including food, dishes, and silverware. Two overnight guests were staying at the inn at the time of the break-in.

Police say that while stealing items, the suspect lost keys to a vehicle. After getting into the vehicle, the suspect was locked inside the car because the door latches were broken. The suspect was stuck inside until troopers arrived.

The suspect is currently lodged in the Mackinac County Jail.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police-Sault Ste. Marie Post also assisted at the scene.
