Father Marquette statue photo contest

The city of Marquette’s statue of Father Jacques Marquette is about to mark 100 years at its present location.

A neighboring business is marking the occasion with a contest.

Profiles In Hair Design is a salon.

It’s holding a photo contest, with prizes for the best pictures of the statue.

Profiles is directly across South Front Street from the statue, so the people in the salon get to see it every day.

“He has all different personalities with the weather, so I thought it would be kind of a fun thing,” Profiles owner Anne Erspamer said. “We do notice a lot of people taking pictures of him all the time, so we thought this would be a fun way for us to get involved with the community restoration of the statue, which is taking place in July.”

But the salon and its employees won’t decide which photos take home the prizes in the contest.

Its customers will.

“For the month of June, we are going to vote, or we’ll have our clients vote on them. And we are giving away cash prizes, $75 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third.,” Erspamer said.

Photos of the statue will be accepted into the contest through may 31st.

The photos have to be framed.

They can be no smaller than 8″ by 10″ and no larger than 16″ by 20″.

Each framed photo needs to have the name and phone number of the person entering it on the back of the frame.
