Partridge Creek Diverson begins May 11

Work has started on the Partridge Creek Diversion project in Ishpeming that will last through summer.

Starting May 11, a portion of Business M-28 that runs through the city will be closed from Lakeshore Drive to Pine Street.  A detour will be used for Business M-28.

The detour will take motorists traveling eastbound from M-28 to 2nd Street, then Bessemer to 3rd Street, then Cleveland to 4th Street, and returning to Business M-28 at Division Street.

The Partridge Creek Diversion project is the second phase of an $8.7 million investment to reroute the Partridge Creek out from a mine shaft and through Ishpeming’s storm sewer system.

Rerouting the creek will reduce mercury loading to Deer Lake, allowing it to be de-listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as an Area of Concern.
