MDOT wants drivers in Houghton County to know about a road project scheduled to begin Wednesday.

M-26 in Laurium is being rebuilt from Isle Royale Street to Boundary Street, and so is Osceola Street from M-26 to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

MDOT is expecting the project to wrap up in late October.

Historic concrete pavement will be recreated, sidewalks and lighting will be installed, and underground water mains and drainage will be improved.

The work will require a closure to through-traffic and a detour in two phases. During Phase 1, northbound M-26 traffic will detour on Isle Royale Street and Third Street back to M-26. During Phase 2, M-26 traffic will detour on Lake Linden Avenue and US-41 back to M-26.
