Law enforcement agencies responded to a possible gas leak in the Houghton County Jail early Sunday morning.
According to the the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, the possible gas leak occurred around 4 a.m. Inmates were moved from the main cell block into a secure area.
The Houghton Fire Department, Semco Gas Company and a heating professional were called to the scene, and no harmful concentrations of gas were detected.
The area was determined to be safe.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department were also assisted by the Houghton and Hancock Police Departments, and Michigan Tech Public Safety.
