Child development books for parents

All of the Rotary Clubs in Marquette and Munising have joined forces to help local parents.

The clubs have teamed up to buy 500 copies of “The Brain Game”.

It’s a guide to how parents can enhance their children’s brain development from birth through age three.

Rotarians in Wisconsin developed “The Brain Game”, which is now in its third edition.

“And our club, along with a couple of other clubs here in Marquette, have helped put this particular distribution together, thanks to work from a lot of our members,” Marquette Breakfast Rotary Club president Bob Stephenson said.

The Ishpeming–Negaunee Rotary Club recently teamed up with Bell Hospital to buy 300 copies for parents of babies born there.

Many Marquette and Alger County agencies received copies today.

“A couple of them are Great Start to Quality, AMCAB, the Marquette County Health Department, Parent Coalition, the Care Clinic, to name a few,” Stephenson said. “There’s 13 in total, I believe.”

The shipment of books cost $5,000.

A psychologist from Calumet provided training this afternoon to representatives of all the agencies receiving the books.
