Driver in fatal accident sentenced
A Big Bay woman will be in prison for 19 months to 15 years for her role in a car accident that killed a young man.
Thirty-five-year-old Amy Tierrablanca appeared in Marquette County Circuit Court today for sentencing.
She recently pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, causing death.
In February 2012, Tierrablanca drove off of County Road 550 in Big Bay and hit a snowbank.
The vehicle rolled over and hit a guy wire attached to a utility pole.
A passenger, 21-year-old Michael Abbott of Big Bay, died at the scene.
Tierrablanca was also charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death, but prosecutors dismissed that charge under a plea agreement.
