NMU Jazz Festival gala concert
Middle and high schoolers traveled to Northern Michigan University to participate in this year’s NMU Jazz Festival.
All day long, jazz ensembles performed for each other in several different locations on the NMU campus.
But the nasty weather did keep quite a few potential participants from being able to show off their talents.
The festival wrapped up with a gala concert at Kaufman Auditorium tonight that included the Marquette Senior High School Jazz Ensemble, among others.
The Smithsonian recognizes April as Jazz Appreciation Month.
Alto saxophonist Jim Snidero and award-winning jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins took the stage as well, accompanied by the NMU Jazz Band and Jazz Combo.
The two artists also held workshops for the younger students earlier in the day.
