Power being restored in Houghton area

Only a handful of customers on Portage Street remain without power at noon. UPPCO says they’ll be restored after the broken pole has been replaced. The process could take an additional 4 or 5 hours to complete.

At about 9:00 AM, about 1,000 customers, including the M-26 business area, were restored by switching to bring in electric service from a different direction. Within the next hour, UPPCO expects to re-energize most of downtown Houghton.
……
An outage caused by a car – pole accident has left about 1700 business and residential customers without power in downtown Houghton and out along M-26.

UPPCO crews are on site and attempting to perform some switching to bring power in to many customers. That process could take an hour or two.

Other customers will remain out in the immediate area of the accident while crews replace the broken pole prior to re-energizing the area. It could take several hours before all customers are restored.
