Ishpeming H.S. adds softball program

‘Pay to Play’ is a fairly new concept in the world of high school sports. Some schools require athletes to pay a fee at the beginning of a season in order to be on a team.

The softball team at Ishpeming understands the ‘Pay for Play’ concept. The team is self-funded.

Interest in a softball team at Ishpeming High School had been discussed for a number of years among Little League parents wanting a team for their daughters to possibly play for in the future.

Now thanks to a lot of hard work and fundraising, a softball team at Ishpeming is now a reality.

The Hematites roster is made up of 16 players, most of them being underclassmen.

If there is one thing that Jeremy Thompson, the head coach of the Hematites stresses, is performing well on the field and in the classroom.

Thompson hopes each of his players takes his advice to heart.

Ishpeming played in its first ever game last week. The Hematites played Superior Central and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
