Kingsford H.S. adds varsity sport

In the ever changing world of high school athletics, the sport of softball is on the rise here in the Upper Peninsula.

For the second consecutive year, more than one school has added softball to its list of varsity sports.

One of those schools is Kingsford. In January, the Breitung Township School Board added softball as a varsity spring sport at Kingsford.

There was so much interest in the team that head coach Kevin Murdock actually had to make cuts at tryouts. The interest in the softball program has the whole Kingsford softball community exited for its future.

The Flivvers roster is loaded with underclassmen. Of the 19 girls on the team, 12 are sophomores.

With a young core of players, Kingsford hopes to become one of the premier softball programs in the U.P.
