An Iowa man is hospitalized after his snowmobile hit a truck this morning in Houghton County.

The Houghton County Sheriff Department investigated the two vehicle accident that happened on at approximately 9:30am. The accident occurred on Osceola Road near Swedetown in Calumet Township.

Police say John Banovetz of Calumet was driving his 1973 Ford truck northbound on Osceola Road when the vehicle was struck by a snowmobile that did not stop at the trail access to Osceola Road.

The snowmobile was being driven by Jerrold Juett, 62, from Marin, Iowa. Juett failed to yield at the trail access intersection and collided with the Banovetz vehicle.

Juett was thrown from his 2007 Yamaha snowmobile onto the roadway where he sustained a back injury.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene by Joe’s Towing. Banovetz was uninjured in the crash. Juett was treated at the scene by Mercy Ambulance and then transported to Keweenaw Memorial/Aspirius Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.
