Escanaba man killed in accident

Gladstone Public Safety says the investigation is continuing today into a three vehicle accident that claimed the life of an Escanaba man Wednesday evening.

73 year old Thomas Swift was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 41, M-35 and South Hill Road.  It happened about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and  involved a semi truck/trailer and two passenger vehicles.

Swift was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his wife, 73 year old Barbara Swift.   She was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital and later transferred to Marquette General Hospital where she is listed in serious condition.

The driver of the other passenger vehicle, 72 year old Joyce Scheriff of Gladstone, is in stable condition at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Police say the driver of the semi, 24 year old Harley Durocher of Gwinn, was not injured.
