Spanish Day at NMU

English was nowhere to be heard as the 22nd annual Spanish Day took center stage at Northern Michigan University today.

More than 400 students from 16 different high schools across the U.P. attended.

The University Center was transformed into a simulated Spanish-speaking country in which the students were not allowed to speak English.

Students also had the opportunity to compete in skit performance, show-and-tell, Spanish quiz bowl or singing.

Students had the goal of getting their ‘visas’ stamped by engaging in the competitions and also by visiting various types of stores and putting their Spanish vocabulary to the test as they traveled through the fictitious country.
