Marquette County in the Civil War

Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, and its 150th anniversary is taking place this year.

The Marquette Regional History Center will mark the occasion Tuesday night at 7 pm.

It’ll examine what life was like as a soldier in the Civil War through the letters of Edward Watson of Marquette.

He was one of many U.P. men who fought in it.

The center will have several of Watson’s letters home tomorrow night, describing his travels across much of the country.

Civil War–era music will also be part of the presentation, and so will a collection of memorabilia about President Abraham Lincoln.

The History Center is asking for a $5 donation at the door.
