Joint effort to improve U.P. economy

Delta and Marquette County officials met today with Senator Tom Casperson and State Representative John Kivela.

The meeting focused on changing the “Next Michigan Development Act” legislation. The current law has five regions set across the state to foster economic opportunities and promote economic growth.

The meeting today was a way for Delta and Marquette County leaders to work with Casperson and Kivela to add the U.P. as a 6th region.

The counties are hoping to show that Upper Michigan can be a driving force in helping to fix the state’s economy.

The counties are hoping the resolution to the draft is passed by early summer.
