New Ishpeming police contract

The city of Ishpeming has reached a new labor contract with the city’s police union.

The City Council ratified the new deal this morning.

The agreement is for three years.

It was the last remaining contract to be worked out in a long round of talks with city employee bargaining units.

Since early February, the city has also been looking to hire a finance director.

The search is now winding down, and the city is looking at an April 1st start date for the position.

Councilman Dave Williams resigned recently, so the council has an open seat at the moment.

Ishpeming registered voters interested in filling the seat have to turn in nominating papers to City Hall by April 19th.
