Tigers release OF Brennan Boesch

Outfielder Brennan Boesch has been released today by the Detroit Tigers.

Boesch has struggled the last two seasons, dealing with both inconsistency at the plate and numerous injuries. The 27-year old was set to make $2.3 million this season.

Detroit had more outfielders (Quintin Berry, Andy Dirks, Torii Hunter, Austin Jackson) than they had room for on the 25-man roster. In three big league seasons with the Tigers, Boesch hit .259 with 42 home runs and 175 RBIs in 380 games.

Detroit is set open up the regular season on April 1 at Minnesota.
